My 2018 in review

Short story: it was an awesome crazy edge-of-your-seat year for me.

Long story: this year I was able to accomplish a lot of things I told myself that I’m going to accomplish. Maybe not all, but maybe I was at least halfway there. Some of them I did not tell myself I’m going to accomplish, I just kind of did.

So yeah, here’s a quick rundown of what happened in my 2018.

Discovering Bali: a simple and quick guide to the Island of The Gods

On the western-most end of Lesser Sunda Islands, between Java to the west and Lombok to the east, lies the Indonesian island of Bali. It is mostly known for three things: wonderful beaches and dive sites, rich culture, and cheap massage.

Australia: more than just Sydney

“Did you know that everything in Australia will try to kill you?”

That’s what my buddy told me when I told him I’m moving to Australia a couple of years back. In case you have been living under a rock for most of your life, the world (or at least in The Interweebz) has this perception about Australia being filled with the nastiest, scariest, and deadliest creatures. Well, yeah for the most part, it actually is. But other than that, when someone says “Australia”, all they could think about are two things: Sydney and The Opera House.

Why am I a Weekend Warrior?

A year ago I was working for a British-owned company that has an office in Cebu. At that same time, I was working as a home-based programmer for an Australian company. I would wake up at 6 o’clock in the morning and work until 2 o’clock in the afternoon for the Australian company. After that, I would have my lunch, shower, and get ready for my 4pm – 1am work in the office of the British one. At one point in 2014 I even had three jobs. The third one is for an American company based in Utah and I would work from 2am to 4am. I was a senior web developer for all three companies.

It was plenty of cash, but it wasn’t fun.
